Ethics & Jurisprudence
The Ethics portion of the course includes information related to the RN/LVN licensure responsibilities related to nursing ethics and duty to clients, defines moral principles relevant to the practice of professional and vocational nursing, describes considerations relevant to ethical decision-making, identifies strategies to maintain a therapeutic professional relationship between the nurse and client, defines the principles of confidentiality, and describes considerations related to impaired nursing.
The Jurisprudence portion of the course includes information related to the RN/LVN differentiating the roles and functions of the BON from those of professional organizations, compares and contrasts the Nursing Practice Act, BON Rules, BON position statements and guidelines, applies the Practice Standards and Unprofessional Conduct Rules in determining the RN's' and LVNs' duty to the patient, applies the delegation criteria and supervision requirements as they pertain to client conditions and various settings, assesses the nurses' ability to apply the principles relevant to delegation, identifies the types of over-involvement, and utilizes strategies to maintain a therapeutic professional relationship between the nurse and client, describes the purpose and key steps of the peer review process, including minimum procedural standards, relates the Safe Harbor process to applicable situations, discusses determination of RN and LVN scope of practice, summarizes the investigatory and disciplinary process for handling complaints filed against RNs and LVNs, discusses scope of practice limitations dictated by the Multi-State Compact as they apply to RNs and LVNs licensed in party states, and interprets recent legislative amendments to the NPA, in addition to other legislation that may impact nursing practice.
Nursing Documentation
This course includes content related to the purpose of documentation, the Minimum Standards of Professional Nursing Practice and Unprofessional Conduct related to documentation, the basic requirements of legal documentation, commonly used methods and processes of recording and reporting, commonly used methods of alternative record keeping, and computerized documentation systems.
